GW Instek GOS-6112 Oscilloscope repaired after a power surge
My GOS-6112 went kaput due to a power surge. But how? I plugged the scope to a lose socket while the power switch was pushed ON. It must have generated some serial arcs and the scope stopped powering ON.
The 250V 400mA fuse, MOV, and finally the Transformer Primary winding were blown. I was reluctant to rewind it as it would almost cost me the price of the entire scope. Thus I was looking for a replacement transformer. I will link the datasheets and user manuals I found from the www.
I got this most sought datasheet of the Power Transformer P/N GOS-6103-PT from GW Instek Taiwan. I noticed that the The transformer used in the above schematic sheet is different to what has been used in my scope.

Looking at the transformer datasheet I saw that there are two thermal fuses in the transformer. I am not experienced in ripping these off. The 0V Primary tap was open circuit in my transformer.
Still there the scope did not power up. But after a bit of re-soldering dry joints and cleaning up, the scope resurrected! It was a great pleasure to see the scope booting up after a lapse of a few months.
