UNI-T UTi260B max out at 200℃? SOLVED

I have noticed that the value shown on the screen does not go beyond 199.9°C no matter how much the actual temperature is increased. This is not acceptable

UTi260B by Uni-T is a great, affordable thermal imager I got hold of recently. After posting an unboxing video on Youtube, Bhilly Callbraenger who saw it raised the above issue that I also verified to be correct.

UTi260B readings get saturated at 199.9℃ (or its Fahrenheit equivalent) if you try to measure temperatures roughly above 150℃. Is this a bug? I wrote to Uni-T asking about this, and they were helpful enough to clear my doubts.

Let me post UNI-T’s reply below.

Hi Sir,

Our product has two measuring gears (high-gain gear: -15~150℃; Low gain range 150~550℃).

When you measure the temperature of the soldering iron at 360℃, try to set it to the low gain range to see if it can return to normal.

Here are the operation instructions.

Okay, that’s it guys. The device is not broken.

Just switch to Low Gain setting when you measure temperature above 150℃.
